The purpose of this introduction is to outline some grammar terms that are used throughout most of this text. these are just some terms that you will need to understand for you to continue through this lesson plan. 12. Word Order - Is the basic ordering of a sentence using a subject, a verb and an object.
'Tigrigna' - SOV - Example: "I this know" 11. Object - Is the person or thing that is being acted upon. Example: "He ate dinner" 10. Subject - It's the noun or pronoun that is committing the action (or governs the verb). Example: "He ate dinner" 9. Persons - A way of organising personal pronouns (I, we, you, he, she, it, they).
'Second Person' - You - this is where the subject is the person who is directly listening to the speaker; 'Third Person' - He, She, It, They - This is where the subject is a unrelated non-participating person. 8. Tenses - Tense is used to show the relation between an action by a verb and the time. Examples: Past tense - "He ran.", Present tense - "He runs.", Future tense - "He will run." 7. Negation - Negation shows the absence of a noun, or the non-performance of a verb. For example: "He did not run." or "He is not here." 6. Conjunction - A conjunction is a word like "and", "but", "when", etc., it is used to connect phrases. 5. Adverb - It describes a verb. Examples: "quickly", "slowly", "quietly" 4. Verb - An action word. Examples: "to run", "to swim", "to fall" 3. Adjective - It describes a noun. Examples: "tall", "large", "new" 2. Pronoun - A word that substitutes a noun.
