Today is electioon day!

I was reading about the procedural rules for voting today in The Star online when I came to something interesting. One of the questions/answers was a bit strange to say the least…

May I eat my ballot?

At first I questioned the necessity of such an absurd question. I mean, how many people could possibly be wondering if they could eat their own ballot? It would be ten people at the most.

Then I wondered if there was a sub-culture of ballot eaters who have been eating their ballots as a way of silently rebelling against the federal government through bizarre but passive means. After a 2 second search on google I got my answer.

I bring you… THE EDIBLE BALLOT SOCIETY.

The reasons they give for choosing to ‘eat’ their own ballots seem to be comprehensible (although I still think it lacks legitimacy), which tells me that they really believe in what they are saying; opposed to the Neo Rhinos who, while remaining a legally legitimate Canadian political party, are a sub-culture of lovable jokers.

I’m really not the first to notice them so if you want more information on them, their cause, and their total impact here are a few links from various elections ago:
